The Office of the Attorney General in Texas is the Agency for the application of child official support for the State of Texas.

This Office provides for child support of assistance services for parents who wish to obtain or provide support for their children. Office of the Attorney General of Texas can help locate a non-custodial parent to establish paternity, establish and enforce maintenance payments for children and medical support orders, review and amend existing child support orders and collect and pay the child support.

Application for child support Services

1. Who is eligible for Services?

The Office of the Attorney General Texas can also help locate absent parents, establish paternity, enforce and modify child and medical support orders; and to collect and distribute funds for support of the child.

You can also apply to use the services to identify only by the Attorney General to ask for help in locating a parent without having to apply for full child support services. Locate only services are not available for parents seeking to establish an order of Court of paternity of child support or medical support; collect support court order; or enforce custody or visit. The State Parent Locator service can help a parent to obtain the latest available address information and of employment on the parent missing from State and federal documents. However, this Office is not allowed to investigate the information obtained, and they do not guarantee that the missing parent will be found.

4 Should what Documents I apply for Services?

When applying for the services of the Office of the Attorney General in Texas, you should obtain and submit as many of the following documents as possible.

a. a copy of your divorce decree, the separation agreement or support order for the child.

b. a copy of the acknowledgment of paternity, if it was signed.

c. birth certificate (s) of the child (ren).

d. financial documents, such as the stubs of payroll, tax returns and bank statements, for both parents.

e. a previous child record.

Modification of a support order

A maintenance order for the child may only be modified by the Court of Texas System. Even if both parents agree on another arrangement, they must have it approved by the Court. A review of the support order may be requested by both parents every three years, or whenever there is a significant change in financial circumstances or guardians of those who are affected by the order. Characterization of the circumstances may include the loss of a job or a change in the custody of the child. These changes must result in a difference in the monthly payment of 20 percent or $ 100 per the guidelines. Parents may request a review of their food order by contacting the Office of the Attorney General.
